JUAN ESCOBEDO

Juan Escobedo is an award-winning actor, director and photographer. His recent film MARISOL has won several awards including “Best Dramatic Short Film” at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival. MARISOL was also Oscar qualified and the script inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Margaret Herrick Library. 

Mr. Escobedo has a degree in Theater Arts with an emphasis on Directing from Cal State LA. He is the founder of The East LA Society of Film and Arts (TELASOFA) and the East LA Film Festival (ELAFF) with the mission of “Provoking Thought and Inspiring Solutions” for youth, emerging artists, filmmakers and photographers. 

Juan is currently working on a documentary titled The Truth About The Truth about the Jehovah Witness religion and it’s practices around child abuse, shunning and blood prohibition. Before the end of 2019 he’ll be directing a short film titled PREGGERS about the current political climate around abortion laws. Mr. Escobedo is also in pre-production on BLAXICAN, a short film about intergenerational trauma affecting an aging out foster youth. 

 

JUAN AGUSTIN MARQUEZ

Juan Agustín Márquez is a four-time Emmy award winning filmmaker and TED Speaker best known for his documentaries 100,000The Last Colony, and his national music TV show, Té Para Tres con Pili Montilla.

In 2009, Juan’s professional career took a big leap forward. Juan and his team competed and won the coveted DocTV film and distribution grant. With this grant, Juan directed his first feature-length documentary about Puerto Rico’s dog overpopulation problem, called 100,000. The project has been broadcasted in 14 Latin American countries and won numerous awards and recognitions including an EMMY in 2011.  

 After 100,000, Juan co-directed his second Emmy winning documentary, the inspiring true story of 17 students who saved their school from closing. ‘Los 17’ premiered in Univisión with phenomenal ratings.     

 In 2011, Juan moved to Los Angeles, California. Together with host and actress Pili Montilla, he produced and directed the acclaimed and EMMY winning television series Té Para Tres con Pili Montilla, a rockumentary style music show where up and coming musical talents get to share their stories with the rest of the world. 

His most ambitious project is The Last Colony, a documentary about Puerto Rico’s unique relationship with the United States, who was screened at the 2017 PIFF/LA. The Last Colony puts together Puerto Rico’s top political figures, thinkers and activists in a multilevel conversation about the Island’s ultimate political status. Juan is currently producing SATOS, a short film written and directed by Roselyn Sánchez.

 

ANGELA ORTIZ

Born in Colón, Panamá and a resident of Los Angeles for more than fifty years, Angela Ortiz is an accomplished graphic artist, designer, consultant in publishing and a dedicated art and photography curator and leader in the non-profit arts arena. Angela was part of the leadership of Reel Rasquache Art and Film Festival for over five years; then from 2012-14 she was the co-director and curator of the Festival’s art exhibition.

In recent years, she has further expanded her reach to include work as a curator of a wide range of art exhibitions, including Shut Up & Shoot: A Photography Show of Unexpected Moments, Cityscapes, Landscapes & InBetween: A Black & White Photography Show.

She is the publisher of sefijaonline.com, a popular web site on films and pop culture. Her photographs and paintings are in many private collections.

 

SABRINA PERCARIO

Sabrina Percario is a multi-award winning actress and producer known for Julia (2016), I.C.E. CREAM (2017), and Breaking (2017). 

Sabrina received an award for Best Leading Actress at UIFF (United International Film Festival), Best Producer at LAIFFA (L.A Independent Film Festival Awards) and Best Fantasy Film at Burbank International Film Festival. She is now the producer and lead actress in the upcoming feature film Ellipsis (2019) and producer for the upcoming feature film Happy (2019).

Born in São Paulo, Brazil with an Italian citizenship, her purpose is to touch people’s hearts, inspire them, and spread a good positive message through her characters and films she produces.”
